It is not recommended for beginner to learn to surf in Mentawai.
All waves are accessible by boat unless you are paddling out front for an early morning session. Umma Maonu Mentawai Surf and Tribe has access to a large variety of waves for all surfing levels. With waves including Rifles, Hideaways, Bank Vaults, E-Bays, and A-Frames. When you’ve snagged enough waves here, it’s time to venture into the surf playgrounds of the Mentawai’s. There’s also a chance for a bit of exploration with hidden gems that have never been surfed before, giving you the opportunity to score the best waves of your life.
With the right swell and wind conditions, there are seven waves that you can surf regularly that are on a world class level. The island has three amazing waves on the outer reefs. The rooms will be cleaned daily by the staff.

Shower water may smell a little as it has sulfur in it but this is regarded as very healthy for your skin and hair. There are a shared bathroom and toilet in the chalets, but they have their own shower areas.Īll rooms are provided with bath towels. The first chalet can accommodate 3 people and the second bungalow can accommodate up to 5 people. The two chalets are situated away from the main house and entertainment area to ensure maximum privacy. It houses the main dining, lounge, and bar areas as well as a large socializing space for you to enjoy drinks, music, and food to keep you fueled after a long day of surfing. The Umma has 2 bedrooms, each bedroom can accommodate 2 people. All of the houses are built from locally sourced material and recycled wood is used where possible. Guests of Umma Maonu will stay in the traditional Mentawai Umma or two cozy chalets situated amongst the coconut tree forest.
